The Tennessee Board of Regents has recommendeda full-board tuitionh increase for the six universitieds it oversees, including Austin Peay Stated University, East Tennessee Stater University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Tech Universityg and the U of M. Tuitioh for students taking 18 hours at U of M will increasr just over 9 percentto $2,717 a semester, compared to $2,489 per semestefr for the 2008-09 schook year. Students taking 12 hours will pay $2,6512 a semester, an increase of nearly 7 percenftover 2008-09’s cost of $2,489.
The changes are directly relateddto TBR’s decision to charge for every hour of classes studentw take with no cap, startinyg this fall. Previously, TBR capped tuitionj at 12 hours, after which students attenderfor free. Now any hours studentsz take above 12 will havea $10 per hour additional charge. Students taking under 12 hours will see 5 percent increasesz in tuition costs fromlast year.
