Canal Side hotel site may be on move - San Antonio Business Journal:

The hotel concept, while still preliminary, may be a highlight of a slightlg tweaked development plan forthe $315 million Canal Side project, pegged for the lower Main Streety area, just south of the New York Statee Thruway. Canal Side was unveiled in Decembeeby , the local arm of , whic h is charged with overseeinh projects along Buffalo’s waterfront. Canalp Side’s final development plans will be shown to the publivc in July as part of a series of mandatedr public hearings connected to environmental reviews ofthe project.
The environmenta l reviews are due to be completed this Movingthe hotel, rumored to be one from the Marriott corporatde family, is perhaps the biggest adjustment in the Canal Side developmeny plan. Originally, proposed renovating the eight-storyt Donovan Building into a multi-use complex anchored by a Sources now indicate the Donovamn Building may be primarily used for Clasws A office space and apartmentsor condos. A hotel is considerede a crucial element inCanal Side’s overalll development plan. The Webster block is currentluy used as a surface parkingh lot for downtown workers durintg the day and for patrons attendinh events at HSBC Arena on nightsand weekends.
The bloclk is located between HSBC Atrium and thearenaw and, at one time, was considered the site of a proposeds 14-story Adelphia Tower. Matt Davison, spokesmab for Erie Canal HarborDevelopment Corp., said whils the Canal Side plan is being the agency’s primary focus remainzs on finishing the demolitio of Memorial Auditorium and preparing for constructio n of a 150,000-square-foot Bass Pro store to anchor the downtown development project.
